Sept. 15, 1997 FSU Volleyball Earns ACC HonorsTALLAHASSEE, FL. -- For the second straight week, Florida State volleyball players have been honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference. FSU's Aisha Thornton and Clemson's Cindy Stern were named ACC Co-Players of the Week today, while Lady Seminole freshman Kate Hemlepp won her second straight Rookie of the Week award. Thornton had an impressive week of action as she finished with a hitting percentage of .737 over nine games. She tallied 29 kills and only one error on her 38 attempts and also registered a team-high nine blocks. The sophomore middle hitter led the Seminoles to a 3-0 record for the week. Hemlepp finished the week's play with 20 kills and a .262 hitting percentage in claiming the league weekly honor. The outside hitter also tallied five assists, three service aces and 11 digs in the nine games in which she competed. Florida State is 9-0 on this season, marking the best start in school history. |
