Gobrecht Settles Lawsuit with Payment to FSU
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State University today announced the settlement of the dispute between it and Christiana Gobrecht and the University of Southern California arising out of Ms. Gobrecht's early termination of her contract of employment with FSU. The controversy was settled through the payment to FSU of $108,000 and the dismissal and release of existing and potential claims.
Coach Gobrecht was employed by FSU in May, 1996 to coach the women's varsity basketball team. After her initial season in the ACC, she terminated her five-year contract in May, 1997 to become the coach of the USC women's varsity basketball team.
The lawsuits filed by the parties in connection with their dispute will be dismissed permanently. "In my opinion, this settlement is in the best interest of our current coaches, university community and all concerned, while upholding the principle of the University's liquidated damages clause in the coach's contract," said Dave Hart, Director of Athletics at Florida State University. "It is time for all parties to move forward."
There will be no further comments from University personnel regarding the situation.
