Nov. 18, 1997 FSU Hosts Utah State in NIT Second RoundWednesday, Nov. 19, 1997 at 9:30 pm - Leon County Civic Center (12,500), Tallahassee, FL FLORIDA STATEThe Seminoles advanced to the second round of the Chase Preseason NIT with an 89-72 victory over Loyola on Monday night in the home debut of first year head coach Steve Robinson...Junior forward Randell Jackson hit 9-of-13 from the floor and scored a career-high 25 points in the win...Sophomore forward Ron Hale added 15 points and eight rebounds in just 21 minutes off the bench. The Largo, FL native left the game with about seven minutes to play with a sprained left ankle. His status for Wednesday's game will be determined on gameday...For the second consecutive game, a Seminole opponent shot less than 40 percent from the filed and had 20 or more turnovers. Loyola shot 37.5 percent from the floor (21-of-56) and committed 21 miscues...A win puts Robinson in the Preseason NIT Final Four for the second straight year. He coached Tulsa to a third place finish in the event last season. The Aggies advanced to the second round of the tournament by upsetting 1997 Final Four team Minnesota, 75-64, on the road on Monday...Senior point guard Marcus Saxon led the way against the Golden Gophers by pouring in 31 points and is averaging 26.0 points in two games this season...Utah State went 20-9 last year and tied for first place in the Big West...The Aggies have averaged 19.7 wins per year over the last three seasons and have led the nation in rebounding margin two of the last three years...Utah State has no post player on its roster taller than 6-7. THE GAMEMonday's game marks the first meeting between Florida State and Utah State...The game is also a second round contest in the Chase Preseason NIT. The winner advances to the tourney's Final Four next Wednesday and Friday, Nov. 26 and 28, in Madison Square Garden...Florida State has appeared in the event one other time in school history. The Seminoles took fourth place during the 1992-93 season... The Preseason NIT is one of several events during the 1997-98 season that is being played with NCAA experimental rules. Among them: four, 10-minute quarters and a 40-second shot clock.
