Feb 15, 1997 Duke Keeps Rolling, Beats Seminoles, 89-79Trajan Langdon scored 24 points and Roshown McLeod had 14 of his 17 in the first half as sixth-ranked Duke defeated Atlantic Coast Conference foe Florida State, 89-79, for its sixth straight win. Ricky Price added 16 points for the Blue Devils (21-5, 10-3 ACC), who surpassed their league-leading scoring average of 80.1 points per game in sweeping the season series from Florida State and improving to 11-2 all-time against the Seminoles. LaMarr Greer paced Florida State (13-9, 4-9) with 23 points. Kerry Thompson added 16 and James Collins 15 for the Seminoles, who have lost four of their last five games. With the Blue Devils leading by three midway through the first half, McCloud converted a three-point play and a three-pointer for a 35-26 lead with 8:05 to play. The Seminoles cut the deficit to three points at 37-34 and still trailed by only three at 45-42 when Duke closed the half with a 7-1 run to take a 52-43 lead at the break. Chris Carrawell opened the second half with a dunk to give the Blue Devils their first double-digit lead and ignited a 15-4 burst. Carrawell had eight points in the run, which Price capped with a jumper to give Duke its largest lead at 67-47 with 14:52 to go. Florida State closed to 72-60 on Collins' three-pointer, but Langdon scored five points and Steve Wojciechowski added a pair of free throws as the Blue Devils opened a 79-60 bulge with 5:06 remaining. The Seminoles responded with an 11-0 run, capped by Geoff Brower's three-pointer, to close to 79-71 with 2:23 to play. But Langdon nailed a three-pointer and Price had three points in a 7-0 burst that opened an 86-71 lead with 48 seconds left. Wojciechowski, Carrawell and Jeff Capel had 10 points each for Duke, which shot 47.5 percent (29-for-61) from the field. Langdon, fifth in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage, hit 5-of-8 from behind the arc. Corey Louis, who missed the first meeting with Duke after knee surgery, recorded nine points and 10 rebounds for the Seminoles, who shot 45 percent (27-for-60).
