Feb 6, 1997 North Carolina Earns Revenge Against SeminolesShammond Williams scored 18 points, including four-of-six three pointers, as number 20 North Carolina avenged an earlier season loss with a 90-62 drubbing of Florida State in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup. Freshman Ed Cota added a season-high 14 for North Carolina (14-6, 4-5 ACC), which has won five straight at home. The Tar Heels have dominated the Seminoles, winning 25 of the 30 all-time meetings. James Collins scored 21 points for Florida State (12-7, 3-7), which upended the Tar Heels, 84-71, on January 22nd. Cota had 10 of his team's 25 assists and shot five-of-seven from the field. "It was probably my best game," said Cota. "I'm just going to keep trying hard. Right now I feel comfortable coming off the bench." All 13 players who dressed for the game scored for North Carolina, which shot a healthy 56 percent (37-of-66), including 61 percent in the second half. "That's the best I've seen them play this year," Florida St. coach Pat Kennedy said. "They looked like the team with the most intensity tonight." North Carolina trailed 8-7 with 16:58 left in the first half before going on a 15-2 run over the next 5:40, opening up a 22-10 lead en route to a 43-31 halftime lead. North Carolina opened the second half by picking up where it left off in the first, scoring 19 of the first 21 points to take a 62-33 cushion. Serge Zwikker had 15 points, with 10 coming in the first half. Antawn Jamison netted 15 and 15 rebounds for the Tar Heels, which outrebounded Florida State, 41-34. Florida State made just 6-of-25 three-point shots. FLORIDA ST (62)
