FSU Cross Country Women Finish Second, Men Fourth At Auburn Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. - The Florida State University cross country team had an impressive showing Saturday morning as the women placed second and the men fourth at the Auburn University Cross Country Invitational in Auburn, Ala. Junior transfer Vicky Gill finished first overall for the Lady Seminoles, running the 5,000-meter course at Indian Pines Golf Course in 16:18.30.

The Lady Seminoles placed second for the third time in as many meets this season, defeating last season's Southeast Region champion South Florida, who finished seventh. The women placed seven runners in the top 50, scoring a total of 107 points. Baylor won the women's event with a score of 83 and Wichita State finished third (115).

In men's action, junior Kim Bergdahl led the way for the Tribe once again, placing ninth with a time of 24:50.32 in the 8,000-meter course. Freshman Joep Tigchelaar finished 16th (25:08.92) and three other Seminoles placed in the top 50, as FSU finished with 123 points. Alabama won the overall competition with 74 points, followed by Baylor (111) and Texas A&M (113).

The Seminole cross country B-team will compete Saturday, October 6th, at the Disney Invitational in Orlando, Fla. For more information on the FSU cross country team, please visit www.fsutrack.com.
