For Your 'Nole'dge: Sarah Burrington

Oct. 2, 2012

Through the remainder of the season, each Florida State indoor volleyball student-athlete will participate in a question and answer session that goes beyond the volleyball court and will be posted weekly on Seminoles.com. The second to be featured is freshman middle blocker Sarah Burrington

1. Why did you choose to come to Florida State?

For the most part I just fell in love with the coaching staff and with the team. Second of all, the distance from home was great for me, so my parents could come up and watch the matches.

2. Do you have any phobias?

I'm pretty good with animals and insects. I don't really like snakes but I think everyone doesn't like snakes. I don't think I have any phobias.

3. Name one thing that many people do not know about you?

I don't think I'm that tall. I've always been in this body and I've always seen the world from my perspective and I never thought I was that tall. I was always the tallest (in my class growing up) but that's how I had known it to be. I would never hunch over or lean, I always kept my stature elongated and that's how it was, I never thought anything different. People would say `Oh you're tall, and I'd be like yeah.' Another thing is I love kids jokes, like puns.

4. Name three countries that you would like to visit.

Australia would be number one. I know this is so cliché but France, and Greece. Australia is number one because I want to go dive in the Great Barrier Reef.

5. What thought or message would you want to put in a fortune cookie?

I would do 'Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.' It's my motto for my transition from high school to college and it's really true of any great thing that passes or goes away. Celebrate the fact that you had it.

6. If you had to give up a favorite food, which would be the most difficult to give up?

I get Milano cookies all the time; those are the best things ever. I actually got asked to Prom by my boyfriend with Milanos. He carved some kind of knife into the top so the chocolate is showing and it said `Will you go to prom with me?'

7. What is your favorite thing about Florida State?

I love how beautiful the campus is and I love riding my bike around. There are a lot of places to go study or go hang out on campus.

8. Who is your inspiration in life and why?

This is an interesting answer. There is a freshman at Stanford named Jordan Burgess and I was on her team for four years. I thought she was the most dedicated, passionate athlete I've ever met. She definitely inspires me to keep going. Our families are very close.

9. If you knew you could try something and not fail, what would you attempt?

Who would not want to go to the Olympics? I would go to the Olympics and boss it up. If I can't fail then I'd probably get a Gold medal and it would be awesome. I also think it would be cool to be shot out of a cannon if I knew I couldn't fail at it.

10. If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do with your winnings?

I'd go to Disney World!

11. What would be the title of an autobiography about your life?

I always liked to use my middle name. I never sign something with just `Sarah Burrington,' I always like to use my middle name. I could maybe do a title like `Sarah Jane, Not just a Simple Name' because I love to rhyme and I love things that rhyme. A lot of times in conversation I will say something that rhymes and start laughing to myself. I would say my book title would be `Sarah Jane, Remember the Name.'

I've always wished I could write a book on the recruiting process too. I went and visited eight or nine colleges and the first time I went I was so confused about what was going on. As I compared each college I saw what was normal, what wasn't, and there are so many things to consider and so many questions to ask. There's a certain protocol that you go through that I went through completely blind. I've told my parents and some others I think I have a lot of knowledge now on the recruiting process, I wish I could tell my story to other people.
