What You Need to Know:
Scouting the Michigan/Pepsi Challenge...

Staying perfect on the year will be a tall order for the Florida State volleyball team as it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the Michigan/Pepsi Challenge. Michigan is 4-0 after winning the Manhattan College Invitational and Eastern Michigan is off to a 3-1 start, while Oakland is winless in its first two outings. After being the Wolverines 3-2 last year, Todd Kress is 1-1 in his career against Michigan. The third-year floor boss owns a 3-2 record against Eastern Michigan from his days at Northern Illinois.

Seminoles off to best start since 2000...
After a rough start in the opening match of the season, the Seminoles won eight-straight games on its way to a perfect 3-0 start to the 2004 campaign. The hosts defeated Sam Houston State 3-2 before sweeping Stetson and South Alabama to claim the title at the FSU Invitational.

Santos earns Tournament MVP honors at FSU Invitational...
Wasting no time in getting into midseason form, middle blocker Amanda Santos (Minas Gerais, Brazil) made it look easy out there as she claimed FSU Invitational MVP honors. The senior hit a blistering .574 for the weekend--including a career-high .647 against South Alabama on the heels of .615 game versus Stetson--with a 2.73 kills per game average and a team-best 15 blocks.

No Rust for Junior Left Side...
A case for Tournament MVP could have also been made for Kristen Rust (Cincinnati, Ohio) on the left side. While the junior didn't have the same hitting percentage as Amanda Santos, she did outperform her in the kills department, notching a team-high 3.36 kpg. average. Rust also posted a career-high .647 hitting percentage as she went for 12 kills on 17 attempts against Stetson after notching a tournament-high 14 kills over Sam Houston State.

Summertime in the Fall...
Florida State head coach Todd Kress has a pension for getting the most out of freshman as is evident with the three conference Freshman of the Year he's coached, including last year's ACC recipient Cassie McLaughlin (Cary, Ill.). This year's winner could be rookie Summer Weissing (Boca Raton, Fla.). All the newcomer did in her collegiate debut was earn her way onto the FSU Invitational All-Tournament Team by averaging a team-best 2.91 digs per game as the Seminoles' starting libero.

Skower takes charge on the court...
In her first weekend as floor general for the Seminoles, sophomore Jessica Skower (Naples, Fla.) had a strong showing. The 6-foot-1 setter got her second season off to a flying start as she recorded a career-high 55 assists against Sam Houston State. For the weekend she averaged 12.27 assists per game, a rate that would have ranked her third in the ACC last season.

Did You Know?
The last three seasons that FSU has started 3-0 it has won at least 20 games that year with 2000's squad going 21-11 after a 7-0 start. Two of the last three years that FSU has won its first three matches it has advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
