FSU Volleyball Predicted to Finish Second in ACC While Barry, Price and Djuric Named to Preseason All-ACC Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Florida State volleyball team is predicted to finish second in the Atlantic Coast Conference and seniors Brianna Barry, Jordana Price and Mira Djuric have all been placed on the 2009 Preseason All-ACC Team as announced by conference commissioner John D. Swofford Tuesday.

The Seminoles, who were predicted to finish fifth last year and wound up doing so under then first-year head coach Chris Poole, enter the 2009 campaign with a roster made up of standout veterans and talented up-and-comers.

Duke takes in 116 of a possible 121 points, including seven of the 12 first place votes. Coaches’ votes for the predicted order of finish were tallied with 11 points being applied to a first-place vote, 10 points for a second-place vote, etc. Coaches were not permitted to predict their own team’s order of finish.

Just 17 points separate the top-four teams as Florida State, Miami, and North Carolina also take in first-place votes. Florida State follows Duke in second place with 104 points and three first-place votes, while Miami is tabbed to finish in third with 101 points and one first-place vote. North Carolina lands in fourth with 99 points and one first-place vote.

As for the 2009 Preseason All-ACC Team, this marks the second time in as many years and second time in their respective careers that both Barry and Djuric have made the list while Price is included for the first time.

“These young ladies have put in a lot of hard work in their careers,” Poole said. “I know that they are very determined to make the NCAA Tournament this season and are trying to provide good leadership. Brianna and Jordana are poised to carry a heavy load at the middle blocker position every night and it is great to have Mira back after she was forced to take a medical redshirt last season.

“If these three players do their job, we will be very competitive in the ACC and nationally this season.”

The 2009 volleyball season will open on the weekend of August 28 with all 12 teams competing in tournament action – including Florida State.

The Seminoles open the 2009 season by hosting the Florida State Invitational, a tournament that will also feature Central Michigan, North Dakota State and Florida A&M.

FSU’s first match of the year will be against Central Michigan on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.
