Florida State Volleyball Defeats Georgia Tech
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Lady Seminole volleyball team used an impressive serving and blocking effort to defeat Georgia Tech in four games 15-12, 15-9, 9-15, 16-14 this afternoon in Tully Gym. Florida State moved to 15-2, 3-1 in the ACC, with the victory, the Lady Seminoles' first over the Yellow Jackets since 1993. Georgia Tech fell to 8-11, 1-3 in the conference.
Freshman Kate Hemlepp tallied a career-high 5 service aces, part of FSU's season-high 12 aces, to lead the Lady Seminoles on serve. Georgia Tech faultered behind the line, totaling 17 service errors including several clutch miscues in the close fourth game. The Yellow Jackets also had problems on the attack with 33 hitting errors in the match.
At the net, Susan Hawks and Aisha Thornton each had a pair of solo blocks as the Lady Seminoles outblocked Georgia Tech 8-2. Holly Schneider posted her second double-double of the weekend with 12 kills and 21 digs against the Yellow Jackets.
"We served much better this afternoon," said head coach Cecile Reynaud after the match. "Georgia Tech is always tough and they made us work hard for the victory today."
The Lady Seminoles will continue their conference schedule on the road next weekend as Florida State travels to Charlottesville to battle Virginia Friday before meeting defending ACC champion Maryland in College Park on Sunday.
