Florida State Volleyball Falls to Duke
TALLAHASSEE, FL--Despite a career-high 28 kills from Lady Seminole sophomore Aisha Thornton and an 11-kill, 20-dig performance from senior Laura Arnold, Florida State fell to the visiting Duke Blue Devils 7-15, 15-8, 13-15, 11-15 in Tully Gym. With the loss, Florida State dropped to 17-4, 4-3 in the ACC. Duke improved to 9-11 overall, 5-3 in the conference.
The Blue Devils capitalized on numerous unforced errors by the Lady Seminoles during the 2-hour, 21-minute marathon match. Leading 12-9 in the final game, Duke survived 20 consecutive sideouts before pulling out the 15-11 game four victory.
"Duke played very good defense and showed a lot of intensity," said FSU head coach Cecile Reynaud following the match. "We did some things that weren't smart tonight but that's what happens against a good team."
Individually for Florida State, Thornton led the team with a .469 hitting percentage off her 28 kills. Susan Hawks added 15 kills and 4 blocks at the net while Holly Schneider led the defensive effort with 21 digs.
Florida State next hosts Wake Forest on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Tully Gym.
