DAYTON, Ohio - Florida State showed Morehead State what real competition looks like as it swept the Eagles 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-10) in the second win on the road for the Seminoles this season. The Noles are now on a two-match win streak and 7-2 overall as they gave MSU its second loss of the year (8-2).
Florida State was fierce in the first set, downing Morehead State 25-17 and notching 11 kills. The Seminoles held the Eagles to a -.026 attacking percentage to their own .242. The Noles held MSU to .186 in the second set and dominated the court in the final set, hitting at .435 to the Eagles' -.121.
The Garnet and Gold led the overall match with 36 kills, 33 assists, 47 digs, 16 team blocks and 54 points. Morehead State struggled on defense, blocking only three FSU attacks and suffering 28 attacking errors.
Topping the Seminole squad with nine kills was junior Brianna Barry who was hitting a .360 with three blocks. In a close second with seven kills each was fellow junior Jordana Price and freshman Rachael Morgan who also led with her .467 attack percentage. Price also controlled the FSU side of the net with nine block assists while sophomore Lauren Richardson had a solid afternoon with six blocks, four being solos, four kills and a team-high 17 digs.
With little time to rest after such an exciting win, Florida State must turn around to play tournament host Wright State tonight at 7:00 p.m. Currently at the Raider Challenge, FSU leads the field 2-0 while Morehead State and Wright State are both 1-1 and Niagara is 0-2.
