TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women tennis team will host its second fall tournament at home this weekend beginning Friday, November 6, in the Seminole Invitational. The ‘Noles will face elite competition from nine other schools including in-state rivals Miami, South Florida, Central Florida and Florida International in addition to Denver, Mississippi State, Memphis, Alabama and Furman. While most of the squad is playing in Tallahassee, No. 24 Noemie Scharle and No. 28 Katie Rybakova will be battling at the ITA National Indoor Singles Championship Thursday, November 5.
“We are coming to the end of our competitive fall season and it’s important that we do so in strong fashion,” FSU Head Coach Jennifer Hyde said. “We have made some strides in these last few months, as a team and on individual levels. I hope that finishing up our fall season at home (for those who are competing in Tallahassee) will benefit our players this weekend."
The Seminoles Invitational is scheduled to have flighted singles with draws of eight and doubles draws. Weather permitting, Friday’s order of play will include two doubles and one singles rounds while Saturday will include the final round of doubles and one singles round. Sunday is scheduled to have the final round of singles.
In the Seminoles last stint of the fall season, the squad faces six preseason nationally-ranked opponents and two doubles threats.
"We have nine universities coming to compete in this event, and expect to have some very good matches throughout the weekend,” Coach Hyde said. “I’m excited for our girls to get back to yet another competitive event and I’m very much looking forward to seeing how well they can dominate to finish up the fall season."
Although two of Florida State’s players will be unable to compete this weekend due to their playing at the ITA National Indoor Championships, FSU will look to No. 82 Federica Suess and No. 93 Lauren McCreless (Macfarlane) to guide the ‘Noles.
Singles and Doubles draws for this weekend will be posted in this story as soon as they are available. Fans can also follow the team’s success on twitter @fsu_wtennis and www.seminoles.com.
