TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – On short rest, the Florida State women’s tennis team will compete in the Roberta Alison Fall Classic this weekend hosted by the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Starting on Friday, Oct. 5, players from 15 teams will be divided into eight flights for both singles and doubles. Play will start at 9 a.m. with a doubles match followed by a round of singles. A second singles match will be played later in the day.

On Saturday, play will begin again at 9 a.m. with two rounds of doubles matches followed by a final round of singles. Sunday will be reserved for play if any in climate weather should arise during the tournament.  Draws for the weekend are yet to be determined.

The Seminoles are coming off a solid week of tennis at the 2012 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles.

“Our trip out to All-Americans this year was probably the best we’ve ever had since I’ve been coaching,” Head Coach Jennifer Hyde said. “It started in pre-qualifying and all of the girls played really good tennis.  The competition level was so high on both sides of the net and to walk away with that amount of success just speaks a lot about what looks ahead for us for spring.”

Four players participated in the pre-qualifying rounds of singles and doubles, while senior Francesca Segarelli took two matches over ranked opponents in the Qualifying rounds.

In her first round match, Segarelli defeated the No.1 seed in the draw in No. 26 Zoe DeBryucker of North Carolina 6-3, 6-3.  She would follow that performance with another victory over No.56 Stefanie Tan of TCU 6-4, 6-4, just hours later. On Wednesday, Segarelli lost to Julia Elbaba of Virginia 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, falling short of the Main Draw.

“She went out there are got two big ranked wins,” Hyde said. “That is not an easy feat.  Fran did a great job and stepped up her game.  I’m very excited for her to do well. I can see that confidence building in her as it should.  She’s putting in the work and it’s great to see her get rewarded this early on for that.”
