Sept. 27, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla. - Still riding the waves of a solid performance in Atlanta last weekend, the Florida State women's tennis team continues the fall season this weekend in separate locations at the ITA/Riviera All-American Tournament and the Roberta Alison Invitational.

ITA/Riviera All-American

Sophomore Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) and freshman Katie Rybakova (Coral Springs, Fla.) will travel to Malibu, Ca. for the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association national singles and doubles championships of the 2007-08 season. The two will compete in the pre-qualifying rounds of both the doubles and singles draws starting Saturday morning, Sept. 29. Eight players from the pre-qualification draw will advance to the qualifying rounds Tuesday, Oct. 2., also in Malibu.

"Being exposed to that environment early in your career is crucial, so that the expectation is that you should be in that environment," said head coach Jennifer Hyde of the prestigious tournament. "They're going to get the opportunity to play some of the best players in the country in the next week. They're where they belong and I have very high hopes for a successful week."

Macfarlane had a wildly successful freshman year as she finished 28-8 in singles play, giving her an .807 win percentage (third-highest in school history). Rybakova launched her collegiate career last weekend at the Georgia Tech Invite with gusto, completing three rounds of doubles and singles play without a loss. She looks to continue that unbeaten streak Saturday playing singles and doubles with Macfarlane.

Tournament play in doubles and singles at the Riviera will continue through Oct. 7 in California.

Roberta Alison Invitational

Fall tournament play continues for the rest of the Seminole squad in Tuscaloosa, Ala. this weekend at the Roberta Alison Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama. In addition to the Crimson Tide, 10 teams will compete in the event including Auburn, Mississippi State and Troy.

"We had a great weekend at Georgia Tech, so I know some of the girls are anxious to get back out there," said assistant coach Oliver Foreman. "They've had a good week of practice, so I'm expecting--and I'm sure they're expecting--pretty good things this weekend."

Florida State last competed at Alabama in the 2006 ITA South Regionals where senior Carolin Walter (Bingen, Germany) took home the Doubles B Draw title while Macfarlane took second in the Doubles A Draw. Senior Tapiwa Marobela (Gabarone, Botswana) and junior Ania Rynarzewska (Inowroclaw, Poland) also advanced deep into the Singles A and B Draws.

The three-day round robin tournament kicks off at 9:00 a.m. Friday morning, Sept. 28, with the first two rounds of doubles as well as the first round of singles.

Following both tournaments, Florida State will begin preparations for the ITA South Regionals in Athens, Ga. on Oct. 20.
