Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida State sophomore Ruth Seaborne will battle in the Finals of the 2011 AEGON British Junior National Championships Friday at 10 a.m. WET at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, England.
"I'm really close to the goal I've set going into this week, "Seaborne said. ""Winning the whole thing would be a perfect end to a painfully hard summer."
Seaborne has won five matches while on the road to the finals. She won her first and second rounds in two sets each, 6-0, 6-4 and 7-5, 6-2 respectively.
Despite losing the first set 5-7 in her quarterfinal match, Seaborne rallied to take the second (6-2) and third (6-3) sets to move onto the semifinals. She won that match in two sets, 6-2 and 6-3.
"The semifinals were moved indoors today because of the rain. Indoor hard court is my favorite surface (to play on) so I felt more comfortable than previous matches," Seaborne said. "I served a lot better which gave me a lot more confidence and I managed to get her moving out of her comfort zone and the tennis took care of itself."
Although she is on her own tomorrow, Seaborne has already captured the doubles crown. This marks the second straight year that she was crowned a doubles champion.
As a freshman, Seaborne put together a stretch of 11-consecutive singles wins for the Seminoles.
