Slater, Macfarlane Named To 2007 All-ACC Academic Team
July 3, 2007
Greensboro, NC. - To top off an outstanding season for Florida State, Seminole senior Nicola Slater (Ayr, Scotland) and freshman Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) were named to the 2007 All-ACC Academic Women's Tennis Team today, July 3. The announcement comes on the heels of FSU's biggest turn around in program history, which was largely attributed to the dynamic pair of Slater and Macfarlane.
Both Seminoles, part of a dominant doubles pair going 7-1 for the season, were also named to the All-ACC Team following the regular season conclusion. The pair's honors included an invitation to the 2006 Indoor National Championships earlier in the season as well, making them the first doubles team or singles player in program history to receive such an invite.
Atop the list, Slater and Macfarlane represent a Seminole team with much to celebrate in the post-season. Following a 2005-06 season finish at 9-13 (2-10 in the ACC), the Seminoles turned around with five returning veterans knocking out a 16-8 overall mark (8-5 in the ACC), finishing tied for fifth in the ACC and 19th in the nation.
This year, the ACC named 20 student-athletes to the squad, including 10 All-ACC performers and six All-Americans. Student-athletes selected to the All-ACC Academic teams must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.0 for the previous semester, as well as maintained a cumulative average during the student's overall academic career. Such an honor was a first for both Macfarlane and Slater. In 2006, sophomore Ania Rynarzewska made the first-ever all-conference academic team.
