Daneika's British Blog

May 31, 2014

Hi guys, thanks for checking out my blog.

This summer I will be writing about what it's like for me when I'm back home playing and competing in England. I will let you know about the tournaments I play, Wimbledon experiences, training, my preparation for the fall and Coach Hyde visiting in July.

I just arrived back in England on Monday and surprise surprise it's raining. After the 90-degree Tallahassee weather I didn't pack wisely for coming back home. For some reason I seemed to forget how unpredictable the weather is and didn't bring a rain jacket or any warm clothes in general. My teammates and coaches always joke about how it always rains England and I try my hardest to defend it but unfortunately my defense is gradually becoming weaker.

As you may know professional tennis tournaments are in full swing this time of year, and with Wimbledon coming up there are lots of practice tournaments beforehand to allow people from other countries to play on the surface. People always say British players have an advantage because of the amount of grass courts we have...however, this never really goes to plan because of the rain.

After a long drive I arrived at my first grass tournament today and play my first round tomorrow. Unfortunately I've had no practice on it yet (because of the weather), so I'm hoping the courts are dry enough to get a quick 30 minutes on the court before I start. Luckily I'm not the only one in this position.

Over the next few weeks I will be keeping you up to date on my tournaments, results and how coach Hyde is managing the British way of doing things when she visits in July.

I hope you enjoyed my first blog post and keep in tune! Thanks for reading.
