CARY, N.C. (Seminoles.com) - The No. 42-ranked Florida State Seminoles (14-11, 6-8 ACC) are the No. 8 seed in the 2014 ACC Championships and will play their first match at 9:00 a.m. on April 24 at the Cary Tennis Park against No. 9-seed Syracuse (5-14, 5-9 ACC). The Orange defeated Florida State earlier this season, 4-3, on March 7 in Syracuse, N.Y.

"We feel pretty good right now and are coming off of a very solid weekend," said head coach Jennifer Hyde. "Everyone is very excited about our first round match and is very focused on our opponent. The entire team seems calm and ready to go in and play some great tennis this week. The draw is exactly what we wanted it to be."

Florida State is led by 2014 All-ACC selections Kerrie Cartwright and Daneika Borthwick. The pairing are the No. 44-ranked doubles team in the country and have won their last seven matches, including two wins over teams ranked in the ITA top 30.

Cartwright is ranked No. 123 in singles and leads the team with a 22-13 singles record. Borthwick has won her last two matches and is 18-13 on the season in singles with two wins over ranked opponents.

Junior Mia Vriens is 15-10 on the season and also won her most recent match. She is 5-1 on court four this year and also has seven wins at the No. 3 position. Daniela Schippers is on a two-match winning streak and has nine singles wins in her first season at Florida State.

Seniors Kristina Schleich and Laurence Porry closed out their final matches with a win on Sunday and have a combined 17 wins this season in singles. Freshmen Duda Santos and Majlena Pedersen have been playing together at doubles and have a 3-3 mark this spring when paired together.

The winner of Florida State-Syracuse will go on to face No. 1-seed North Carolina at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25.
