TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After recharging and refocusing during spring break, the No. 43-ranked Florida State women's tennis team (8-6, 3-3 ACC) head north to the state of North Carolina as they take on No. 57 NC State (7-4, 1-3 ACC) on March 22 at 12:00 p.m., and play at No. 1 Duke (14-1, 5-1 ACC) on March 23 at 11:00 a.m.
The match against Duke will be shown on ESPN3 as part of USTA's College MatchDay. The Seminoles played on College MatchDay on Feb. 8 in Tallahassee as they defeated LSU, 4-1.
"Again it is the ACC grind," said head coach Jennifer Hyde. "More opportunities for us this weekend and both teams are going to be ready. We are expecting a dogfight with both of them, but it will be exciting as we are continuing to get better and ready to get up there."
Kerrie Cartwright leads the team with a 17-8 record and has a 3-1 record against nationally ranked opponents. She is 9-5 this spring during the dual match season playing on courts one through three.
Daneika Borthwick is 14-8 on the season and has posted a 6-3 mark at the No. 1 position this spring. She is currently on a three-match winning streak, most recently defeating Notre Dame's Britney Sanders in straight sets on March 9, 7-5, 6-4. The junior has improved and currently has a 5-1 record against ACC opponents in 2014 after having a 2-9 singles record in 2013.
Mia Vriens is 11-4 in singles this year with an 8-2 record during the spring dual season. She has a 5-1 record on court four with a 3-1 record on court three. She has paired up with Daniela Schippers and recorded a 5-2 doubles record including a three-match winning streak. Schippers is 6-5 in singles this year as the freshman has played on courts three, four and six.
Kristina Schleich is 7-8 this season and started out winning five of her first six singles matches of the dual season. She is 4-2 on court five and has a 1-1 record at the No. 4 position.
The Seminoles are on the road this weekend before coming back to Tallahassee for a pair of matches on March 30 as FSU takes on UNF at 12:00 p.m., and FAMU at 6:00 p.m.
