Seminoles Prepare For LSU And Mercer On Saturday

Feb. 7, 2014

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 27 Florida State women's tennis team (3-2) will be a part of the opening weekend of USTA's College MatchDay with their noon match against LSU (4-1) on February 8. The `Noles will hit the court again in the afternoon at 5:00 p.m. to play Mercer (1-2). Both matches will be played at the Indoor Tennis Facility on Pottsdamer Rd.

"LSU is ranked at a place where they are not going to end up," said head coach Jennifer Hyde. "They are going to be moving up this year and are a very good team. They are a big threat to anyone they play and we have to be ready for them. We are working on a lot of things to prepare for the format change for Saturday. We are excited about the opportunity and ready to get down to it."

The format of the LSU match will start with six best-of-three set singles matches (worth one point per match). In the case of a tie (only), three doubles matches will be played with 10-point super tie-breakers, creating college tennis' version of "overtime." The team that wins two or more of the three doubles matches receives the decisive point. Four points are required to win the team match.

The match will be aired on ESPN3 and is the only ACC women's tennis match to be broadcast this year.

"The USTA and ITA have put together this College GameDay format and with bringing the ESPN trucks in it is adding a whole new flavor to college tennis. It is completely different from anything that has happened before in college tennis and we are glad to be part of the kickoff weekend," added Hyde.

Fans are encouraged to come out to the Indoor Tennis Facility for both matches. The LSU match is a Loyalty Point match for the FSU student program. Fans will also receive free Chick-Fil-A.
