TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 18 Florida State women's tennis team fell today , 4-3 to No.37 Ole Miss in the second round of the ITA-Kickoff Weekend/Indoor Regional Championships at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

"We are pretty disappointed that we didn't advance," Head Coach Jennifer Hyde said. "We had our chances today. But, we competed pretty hard and we have a lot of positives to take away from this weekend."

Sophomore Ruth Seaborne and junior Francesca Segarelli captured their third doubles win of the season against Gabby Rangel and Erin Stephens 8-5 in the second position, however the Seminoles would lose the doubles point to Ole Miss, with the No. 4 pair of Kristi Boxx and Abby Guthrie beating juniors Amy Sargeant and Carolina De los Santos, 8-2 in the first spot. On the third court, Caroline Rohde-Moe and Julia Jones defeated freshman Leyla Erkan and junior Casey Simmons, 8-4.

After retiring her match yesterday after the Noles secured the win against Ohio State, redshirt junior Noemie Scharle defeated Erin Stephens 6-1, 6-4 in the fourth spot. De Los Santos continued her commanding play on the fifth court as she beat Jones 6-2,6-2 for her third singles victory of the spring season. In those three matches, the Uruguay native has only lost a total of eight games. This win would tie the score, 2-2.

The Rebels would go back on top of the Seminoles 3-2, but the rookie Erkan would battle out of the third spot in a three-set thriller as she defeated Guthrie, 6-4,4-6,6-2, knotting the score at three.

On the sixth court, Vivian Vlaar would hold off Sargeant, 7-5, 5-7, 0-6, to take the final point of the match for Ole Miss. "I told them after we finished the match that this doesn't define our season," Hyde said. "We've got a lot of exciting things ahead this year and they better get ready for it."

The Seminoles won't have much time off as they are set to take the court on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. against North Florida. Times and locations of matches are subject to change.
