ORLANDO, Fla. - The 38th ranked Florida State women's tennis team (2-0) won 6-of-7 matches today at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.

"We won six of seven matches which is a pretty solid start to the weekend," head coach Jennifer Hyde said. "Right now, it's all about getting some good matches under our belts and working through some of the cobwebs from the holiday break. We are off to a great start and we're looking forward to another solid performance tomorrow."

The Seminoles started the tournament facing Iowa in doubles. The team of senior Amy Sargeant and Mia Vriens defeated Shelby Talcott and Christina Harazin 8-1, however senior Francesca Segarelli and sophomore Daneika Borthwick fell to Morven McCulloch and Ruth Seaborne, 8-5.

Junior Kristina Schleich also picked up a win in doubles as she was paired with Clare Mendell of UCF. Together, they defeated Katie Zordani and Annette Dohanics 8-5.

Following doubles, Florida State then faced Furman in singles posting a perfect 5-0 showing against the Paladins.  No.37 Borthwick picked up her fourth win against a ranked opponent this year as she defeated No. 68 Lauren Kline 6-1, 6-2.  

No. 73 Segarelli defeated Alex Moreno-Kaste 6-3, 6-2, while 48th ranked Vriens defeated Michele Stanford, 6-3, 6-1.

Florida State's fourth ranked singles player - No.100 Amy Sargeant picked up a win against Amanda Murray, 6-3, 6-1. Schleich closed out the day with a win against Kelly Sullivan, 6-2, 6-1.

The Seminoles will be back on court at 10 a.m. to play doubles against Furman before taking on UCF in singles.
