FSU Sends Three Singles and Three Doubles into Sunday's Championships

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Three Florida State singles players as well as three doubles tandems will be playing on Sunday in the championship rounds of the 1997 Lady Seminole Fall Classic at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

Junior Sasha Hanna will face South Florida's Tina Harrison in the B flight finals and No. 1 Kylie Thompson, a junior, will meet senior teammate Rakina Payne in the C flight finals.

Hanna and sophomore Kia Asberg will face Kerstyn and Harrison of USF in the A flight doubles semifinals and top-seeds Helena Karlsson, a senior, and freshman Natalie Carratala' take on Payne and Thompson in the B flight semifinals.

Earlier in the day, A flight fourth-seed Celeste Frey of Florida International defeated FSU's Kia Asberg 6-3, 6-3 and No. 2 seed Anita Buggins of Georgia Southern ousted FSU's Ali Weber in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

In other FSU singles action:

FSU's Hanna defeated FIU's Marcella Barboza 6-3, 6-2 and Auburn's Summa Edwards also in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the B flight finals. FSU's Karlsson was defeated by USF's Harrison in the semifinals in a three-setter 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 after coasting past GSU's Aude Boulle 6-3, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

FSU's Thompson, seeded No. 1, defeated Jennifer Parsons of Stetson 6-2, 6-3 and FSU teammate Rakina Payne beat another Seminole Natalie Carratala' in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to play each other in the C flight finals.

In other FSU doubles action:

FSU's Hanna-Asberg defeated Lynn-Woods of Stetson 8-5 in the A doubles flight and FSU's Payne-Thompson defeated FIU's Luna-Pimental 8-5 in the B flight.
