KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Florida State women's tennis team concluded their season with a 6-0 defeat to Vanderbilt University at the NCAA Southeast Regional at the University of Tennessee. The Seminoles entered the regional as the No. 8 seed before falling to the No. 1-seeded Lady Commodores.
Nanette Duxin opened at the No. 1 position for the Lady Seminoles, losing to Julie Ditty in three sets (6-3, 2-6. 6-2). Ali Weber, playing at the No. 2 position, lost a straight-set match to Callie Creighton (6-3, 6-1). Kia Asberg and Kylie Thompson, playing at the No. 3 and 5 positions, respectively, lost in three sets to Kristen Radford and Anne Plessinger. Both players opened with 6-1 victories in the first set before losing in three. No. 6 Natalie Carratala lost 6-0, 6-4 to Staci Ryan in the final singles match.
"I was happy with the performance of our team against Vanderbilt," commented head coach Lise Gregory. "Our players went out and competed hard in every match. I think that we gave Vanderbilt all they could handle and we should be proud of what we accomplished."
The Lady Seminoles were eliminated from postseason play and finish the
season with a 12-12 record.
