Gainesville, Fla.- Sophomore Lauren Macfarlane downed the No. 58-ranked player in the country as the No. 20 Florida State women's tennis squad fell 6-1 to No. 5 Florida. The Seminoles pushed two Gators to three sets and avoided a shutout in their 32nd face-off against their in-state rivals.
Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) dominated Florida's Megan Alexander in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 on court two to give the Seminoles their only match point of the night. Senior Carolin Walter (Bingen, Germany) pushed No. 26 Csilla Borsanyi to three sets after a 7-5 victory in the first set and a 4-6 loss in the second. Freshman Federica Suess also won her first set to push No. 64-ranked Anastasia Revzina to fight for the win.
Florida State, now 7-1, will begin preparations to face No. 35 Louisiana State University on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center at 12:00 p.m.
