FSU Women's Tennis Returns, Prepares To Take On JU Saturday
The Seminoles hope to continue their Hawaiian success at home this weekend.

Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida State made its way back to Tallahassee yesterday after a successful showing at the 2008 Hawaii Spring Invitational in Honolulu. The No. 20-ranked Seminoles closed out the three-day tournament with a wildly successful 6-1 singles outing, finalizing their singles record for the tournament at 15-6.
Senior No. 60-ranked Carolin Walter and sophomore Jessica Wente both swept the singles courts, going 3-0 for the tournament. Walter posted her last win over Alica Tunaru of Alabama in a tough 6-7, 7-6, 6-1 match on Friday while Wente took her final win over Hawaii's own Natasha Zorec 6-4, 6-3.
Fellow sophomore Lauren Macfarlane defeated Sophie Kobuch of Hawaii 7-5, 6-0, leaving her with a 2-1 record at the tournament as her one loss came in an achingly close 7-6(3), 6-7(4), 6-2 battle against Sacramento State's No. 63-ranked Katrina Zheltova on the first day of the tournament.
Freshman Federica Suess also closed out the tournament undefeated, moving her singles record in just over a semester at Florida State to an impressive 13-4. The German-native defeated Edina Horvath of Kansas 6-4, 6-2 on the tournament's final day.
The Seminoles face a short week of practice before opening the home season at Scott Speicher Tennis Center this Saturday, Jan. 26, against Jacksonville University at 1:00 pm. Florida State's match-up with the Dolphins will mark the first of five consecutive home matches and a total of ten matches to be played in Tallahassee between now and March 9.
