Hayden Perez

Assistant coach Hayden Perez joined the Seminoles staff less than two weeks after current women's tennis head coach, FSU alum and former captain Jennifer Hyde took over the program. Perez brings to the women's tennis program experience in all realms of the intercollegiate tennis program, both as a former student-athlete at Cameron University and a professional in the industry.

"I had a very solid pool of applicants with different levels of experience - all very qualified," said Hyde. "Hayden stood out because he's very charismatic and has a personality that is contagious - to me, the team and our potential student-athletes. He's a very hard worker with great experience having worked with the Air Force, the United States Tennis Association and the University of Wyoming. All of that makes me feel like he will compliment the program in a number of ways."

Most recently, Perez spent two seasons with the University of Wyoming women's tennis program as the assistant women's tennis coach. Prior to working with Wyoming, Perez was the Director of Player Development for the Intermountain Section of the United States Tennis Association in Denver, Colo. where he was responsible for all aspects of junior competition including rankings, endorsement opportunities and scheduling. During the 2002-03 season, he served as a volunteer coach with the Air Force Academy's women's program after serving as an assistant coach during the 2001-02 season.

In 2000-01, Perez served as an assistant teaching pro at Woodlake Racquet Club in Oklahoma City, before moving on to the Air Force Academy.

His experience also includes one season as a graduate assistant tennis coach at his alma mater Cameron University and as a tennis instructor at the United States Air Force Academy Sports Camps and Texas A&M University for two years (1997-98).

As a player, Perez was a two-time Most Valuable Player selection at Cameron and advanced to the finals of the ITA Rolex Midwest Region Division II finals in the fall of 1996. During his two year career, he also reached 17th in the nation among Division II doubles, and earned a Men's Open USTA National Ranking of fourth.

Prior to his time at Cameron University, he spent two seasons at Collin County Community College in Plano, Texas, where he was a member of the Division II NJCAA National Champion doubles team and NJCAA national championship team in 1995. In the same season, he was a first-team NJCAA All-America selection. In 1996, he was ranked as high as seventh nationally in doubles and 27th in singles while earning honorable mention All-America NJCAA honors.

Perez earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Cameron University (Lawton, Okla.) in 1999. He is married to the former Gretchen McGeough.
