LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Florida State sand volleyball team will make its second consecutive trip to the Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship, the AVCA National Championship Selection Committee announced late Monday.

The Seminoles captured the No. 3 seed and will join No. 1 Pepperdine, No. 2 Long Beach State, No. 4 Southern California, No. 5 North Florida and No. 6 ULM to battle for the national title in Gulf Shores, Ala., from May 3-5.

Last year, FSU was one of four teams invited to the inaugural championship and finished third behind runner-up Long Beach State and eventual national champion Pepperdine. The Noles are 15-2 in dual play this season.

"I'm really excited," FSU sand volleyball head coach Danalee Corso said. "For two years in a row we've been able to make the National Championships. It's so close to home. It's a great venue, and it's a great event. We've been able to start strong and maintain ourselves in the top four, which had been a goal all along. We definitely want to be in the finals and we definitely want to win a national championship. These are goals we haven't accomplished yet. It keeps us working hard. It keeps us focused. This is what we've been training so hard for the whole year. The players are ready. They are peaking at the right time. We're ready."

FSU will open the tournament against ULM at 10 a.m. on Friday.

In addition to a team national champion, a pairs national champion will also be crowned from a 16-team bracket. The pairs field will include the top duos from the schools in the team competition as well as the `Best of the Rest' from squads across the nation.

CBS Sports Network will televise portions of the competition in three hour-long specials beginning on Tuesday, May 21 with back-to-back shows starting at 7 p.m. ET The programming will wrap up on Tuesday, May 28, at 8 p.m. ET.

The Team Championship will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4. Each school fields five doubles teams ranked in order and plays the corresponding pair from an opponent. The team-versus-team matches are decided by the school winning three of the five flights. Play starts at 9 a.m. CT on five championship courts that have been constructed specifically for this event. The teams have been seeded one through six with Pepperdine earning the number one spot. The Team Championship will consist of nine school-versus-school matchups over the two days with the finals beginning at 3:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 4.
