As the Florida State sand volleyball program prepares to begin its second season, Seminoles.com will highlight the personalities of the players in a weekly Q & A feature - "Diggin' in Deep." Our second "Diggin in Deep" participant is senior Amanda Saxton.

What's your motto in life?
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

Name two things you consider yourself to be very good at.
Welcoming people and just being positive and putting a smile on people's faces.

What is something most people don't know about you?
I used to sing and dance. I was in the chorus in my high school and I was involved in theater plays. I did a lot of that in middle and high school.

What is your favorite class at FSU?
Interpersonal communication. I really like that class because I like learning about people and relationships.

Who had the biggest influence on your athletic career?
My coach that I had in high school, Thomas Scott. He was a strength coach and he helped grow my faith in God and helped me get to the level that I am at now.

What do you think is your strongest athletic attribute?
I'm good at keeping a positive angle throughout playing. Like when I get down I try to shake it off, let go and move on to the next play.

Best non-athletic talent?
I like to sing. I think I'm pretty good at that.

What would you say will be the strength of the team this season?
Definitely having a diverse group of girls. We have a lot of girls from the indoor team coming on and even with just sand we have a lot of freshmen, sophomore, juniors, and seniors so just having that wide range of girls.

What was your childhood nickname or nickname that you currently have?
My mom used call me "Roo" when I was younger because I used to watch Winnie the Pooh a lot, so my family name was Roo.

Name something, other than volleyball, that you're truly passionate about?
Definitely sharing my Christian faith with young athletes. I like to speak a lot at FCA for middle schools, elementary schools and high schools. I really love doing that.

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
Definitely where I am right now because I never would have saw myself being here, being a sand volleyball player, because I was a practice player my freshman year in college so I definitely think now where I am is a great accomplishment.

Favorite song to dance to?
There's a song called "Sing, Sing, Sing" by Chris Tomlin.

Favorite dance?
The Cupid Shuffle

What is one item that you really should throw away but probably never will?
Probably my old papers from high school.

Why did you choose FSU?
Both of my parents went here and I grew up a Seminole fan and I never thought I could play volleyball here but I called coach (Chris) Poole and I got the chance to be a practice player my freshmen year and knowing that I had the opportunity I just wanted to take that and I just wanted to be at a big school with so many diverse people and so many different ways to get involved and FSU is just so pretty too.

What is your favorite thing about FSU?
I just love how everyone feels like a family. We have so much support from the administrative athletic staff, administration and the professors. Everyone is just so welcoming and wants you to succeed here.

What is your earliest memory of playing volleyball?
The first time I've ever played volleyball was in fifth grade. I heard that we had a team in elementary school and I remember just going out for the team. I've never played before but I fell in love with it.

The biggest difference of indoor and outdoor volleyball is sand of course, but can you tell me what are some other differences?
Definitely the strategy. It's two on two rather versus six on six so just being able to pass, set and hit and all those skills. You really need to be a well-rounded player.

What is the best way that you would describe your game style?
Cool and collective.

What do you think is one of the biggest misconceptions about sand volleyball?
Probably that it just has this culture of being laid back on the beach, but you definitely have to work hard to be in this sport and it's not easy. Sometime people think that it's just a recreational sport but it's not it's an up and coming sport and definitely hard to do.

What would be your perfect sand volleyball soundtrack?
I would want Miley Cyrus, "Party in the U.S.A." song on my soundtrack.

Do you have any phobias?
I don't really have a phobia, but I like it when my room is clean.

Name three things you cannot live without
My bible, my laptop and my phone

How do you spend your free time?
I do a lot of community service stuff and I hang out with a lot of friends from my campus ministry and FCA, cooking and cleaning.

What single piece of technology you cannot live without?
Probably the internet.

What is one daily activity that bores you?
I would say brushing my teeth just because you have to do it.

When do you feel your best morning, noon/afternoon or night?
I'm a morning person

What is your philosophy on life?
I just want to give God the glory in everything I do. I just want to work hard for him because he's the only audience that I'm working for and doing things for him I can't go wrong.

Have you ever lived outside of this country?
I studied abroad in London for six weeks in summer 2011.

Most exotic place that you have been?
Wales and Pembroke. We went to an adventure place where we got to go cliff diving, kayaking and hiking and it was just really cool and there were some many different things to see and do.

Finish this sentence-the best part of waking up
is starting a new day.

Finish this phrase- life is a beach
"and I'm just playing in the sand."

Hip hop, R&B, Rock, Country or Classical?
Classical

Favorite Movie?
Rudy

Favorite TV Show?
I really don't watch TV.

If you could have any super power what would it be?
I think it would be really cool to fly.

Who would be your ideal dinner date?
Probably just some friends

Favorite dessert?
Definitely ice cream and cookies
