TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The fourth-ranked Florida State sand volleyball team completed its last set of matches before heading to Gulf Shores, Ala. for the AVCA National Championships May 2-4.

The Seminoles competed in their annual Garnet and Gold Intrasquad Match on Saturday.

"I was hoping to see the team play their best volleyball because we should be peaking right now and through next weekend," FSU head coach Danalee Corso said. "That's exactly what I saw. I was very pleased with our play. From top to bottom everybody looks fresh and ready to go. I'm very happy."

Florida State's No. 2 tandem of junior Stephanie Pellitteri and sophomore Kristina Pellitteri finished undefeated on the day. The sisters cruised past freshmen Hailey Luke and Julia Thompson in their first match 21-8, 21-16. In their second match, they went toe-to-toe with seniors Aurora Davis and Fatma Yildirim. With a 21-19, 21-15 victory, the Pellitteri's will have tremendous confidence heading into National Championships.

"It's a definitely huge for us," Stephanie Pellitteri said. "Being out here today, challenging our teammates - that's some of the best competition we'll face all season. We all know each other's strengths and weaknesses so it's a mental test. It was awesome to come out here and fine tune everything for the national championships."

The duo of sophomore Annie Montgomery and freshman Sierra Sanchez battled in a pair of three set matches. Montgomery and Sanchez defeated sophomore Katherine Plessy and former Seminole and 2013 team captain Mallory Kiley after a Montgomery block on Plessy in the third set 21-18, 12-21, 15-13. Montgomery and Sanchez played in another three set thriller against sophomores Lexy Ryan and Kayla Joyce falling to the sophomore pair 21-12, 10-21, 16-14 to end the day.

The Seminoles will now head to Gulf Shoes, Ala. for the AVCA National Championships. Florida State will be the third seed in the tournament and will face off against Stetson on May 2.
