Seminole Softball Enjoys Reunion In November

Dec. 6, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla. - Current and former Florida State softball team members gathered in Tallahassee November 16 through 18 for a weekend of reuniting with old friends and sharing new stories. The event included an alumni softball game, two socials and the Florida State vs. Maryland football game.

Over 60 alumni of the Seminole softball program were in attendance that weekend, including Hall of Fame members Susan Tanner (formerly Painter), Julie Larsen-Baker and former softball coach Dr. Billie Jones. Jones originally hired current head coach Dr. JoAnne Graf 30 years ago.

"All JoAnne wanted to do was coach," Dr. Jones said. "She was not the only one to apply, but in my opinion, her opinion and the opinion of the committee, she was by far the best choice. I had great faith in her and still do."

Coach Graf will celebrate her 30th season at the helm of the softball program this season.

"Coach Graf is very special and I hold a dear place for her in my heart," Tanner said. "I'll be the first one to come through the doors and honor her in her 30th year."

Larsen-Baker added, "There have been so many milestones in JoAnne's career that I'm just astounded every time she reaches a new one."

Dr. Graf will coach her 1,856 game with the Seminoles as the 2008 season kicks off on February 8 with the Early Bird Tournament hosted by Florida State.
