Recruit Spotlight: Savannah McCormack

Nov. 23, 2013

Savannah McCormack is explosive at the plate.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Savannah McCormack signed her National Letter of Intent on November 13 to play for the Florida State softball team beginning in the 2014-15 academic year.

"I chose Florida State because it felt like home and I love the atmosphere in Tallahassee," said McCormack. "I would like to go out and earn my spot on the field as a freshman and be a team leader. Most of all, I would love to beat Florida!"

Currently a senior at Bartram Trail High School, McCormack was a three time All-County selection (2011-13), a two-time member of the Saint Johns River All-Conference team (2012-13) and set a new school record in 2013 with 12 home runs as she went on to be named to the Miracle Sports All-Florida High School Softball 5A team for the second year in a row. She has also competed in weightlifting for the Bears.

She has been a member of the Florida Storm Gold Shepherd team for several years and finished 25th at the 2013 ASA Gold Nationals. McCormack has led the team in home runs, slugging and batting average each of the last four seasons.

"Savannah McCormack is a raw player with the ability to swing the bat for us," said head coach Lonni Alameda. "She has great hands and has already displayed a lot of power. She is the kind of person that will use everything that the athletic department and school has to offer her to become the best student-athlete that she can be.

"We see great things for her in the future, knowing that she can bring a lot of run production that we're going to be losing from this senior class. We're excited about getting the chance to work with her day in and day out."

McCormack mentioned her parents as those who most influenced her softball career. "My dad is the one who has put in the hard work, sweat and tears with me to get better," added McCormack. "He was out there with me every day, whether it was at the field, in our back yard or even in our garage.

"My mom has also been a big influence because she is always the loudest mom in the stands cheering for me. She has attended every tournament and practice and has put in the time to watch me get better. My mom also comes out to the field with my dad and has been a really big help. She's always been there for me."

That wraps up the spotlights on our 2014-15 recruits. We can't wait to see them in the Garnet and Gold next year.
