Recruit Spotlight: Jessica Warren

Nov. 19, 2013

Jessica Warren brings a big swing to Tallahassee.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Jessica Warren, a native of Tampa, Fla., and a senior at Alonso High School, signed her National Letter of Intent on November 13 to play for the Florida State softball team starting in 2014-15.

Warren has been a leader for the Alonso Ravens for several years. Named All-Hillsborough County as a freshman, All-Western Conference as a sophomore and an All-American as a junior, she has steadily become one of the best players in the country. Warren has also been a member of the Principal's Honor Roll and the A-Team at Alonso High.

Jessica Warren signs her NLI.

"Jessica Warren is a special athlete. She's a ball player that has great softball instincts," said head coach Lonni Alameda. "She can do some things for us from the get-go. She comes from a smaller program led by Sherman Johnson Sr., father of two FSU baseball players. He has helped develop her skills, and he and his sons have given her a lot of guidance."

Warren has been under the tutelage of Johnson as a member of the Tampa Young Guns travel team. She absolutely smashed the ball during the most recent travel season, batting .682 with 16 home runs for the Young Guns. She also showed her skill with the glove, amassing a fielding percentage of .985.

"The main thing that I would say about Jessie is that she is a one-of-a-kind player," said Johnson. "I have seen a lot of softball, and I've seen a lot of baseball, but I have yet to see anybody that does the stuff that she does. She is one of those kind of players that you want to make sure everything is video recorded. She makes plays that will make you say, `Oh no, she didn't do that. She couldn't have done that.' But she does it, and does it pretty consistently."

"I think she will do really well at Florida State. She will fit right in immediately," added Johnson. "She can pretty much play any position and will do whatever the coaching staff asks her to do. That's the kind of player she is, very unselfish."

Warren was recruited by several other schools, most notably Michigan. "I chose Florida State because the campus is absolutely beautiful and people of Tallahassee are very nice. The players made me feel a part of the team on my visits," said Warren. "I wouldn't have been able to do any of this without my family, my teammates and my coaches that have helped me throughout the years."

"She is a `Nole through and through and she's excited to come here and wear the jersey," added Alameda. "With her instincts, she could really make an impact on the program from the day she gets here."
