Getting to Know: Victoria Daddis

Oct. 31, 2013

Victoria Daddis feels right at home in the Garnet and Gold.

What was your favorite Halloween costume?
I don't know if I have a favorite, but I think have been a cat about seven times in my life. I guess it's my favorite because I keep going back to it. I'm sure I can go back and line up pictures of myself in different cat outfits.

Do you have any pre-game routines and superstitions?
I don't have any specifically for this year, but I am really superstitious. I had a lot for high school: always wear the same thing, left sock on first then right sock, get completely dressed and then I do my hair and then I put my pants on. I also listen to music.

How different is college softball to high school?
It's a lot different because the team is a lot bigger. A lot of girls and a lot of different personalities, but we all get along well and have a really good time. I've already made a lot of memories. It's also a lot to learn. I've learned so much about the game that I thought I already knew since I've been here. Every day at practice is a whole new, `Oh, we can do this, we can do that?'

What's the best thing you've experienced at college so far, whether athletically or otherwise?
I think just being independent and being on my own is really cool. Being responsible for myself but still knowing that I have to be here and I have to do this. It's really cool when I have really productive days, like `Oh, I got this, this and this done today.' Also, all the friendships and meeting all the new people. What's probably my favorite is how close I've gotten to the other sports. I never even knew that diving was a sport, but I have really close friends there now. Also with sand volleyball and the swimmers. I never thought I'd care that much, but we are really good friends.

What made you choose Florida State?
The atmosphere. The first time I came here for a camp, it felt like home. It's not really `Florida State', it is home. Also the tradition; we have a winning tradition here. Just the pride and everything athletically, and even our mascot and the Seminole tribe. That is something to be proud of, to represent them all the time.

What would you do if you had 10 million dollars?
I don't know, ask my mom what to do with it? 10 million dollars is a lot of money. Probably just make sure my family is taken care of.

What do you do to relax outside of sports and school?
I watch a lot of movies. My roommate and I watch movies almost every night. When we are just winding down there is a movie on, whether we are watching it or not. Also, sleep. I sleep when I can. So when I'm not in class or at practice, it is either eat or sleep.

What would you like to do after college, or when your softball playing days are over?
That's actually something I've been thinking a lot about lately. Growing up and coming into college, I've always said that I want to do physical therapy, like that's what I want to do. Or athletic training or something on that road. But as long as I can stay connected to sports, I'll be happy. So I'm trying to find something to satisfy that right now.

Has softball always been a big part of your life?
Yes. I started playing softball when I was eight because I went to one of my mom's church league games and that made me want to play. Since then it's been, `Do you want to play college ball?', `This is your dream." And then every day, mom and dad and I out at the fields. That's what my life has been. Weekends are tournaments and summers are tournaments.

What is something on your "bucket list"?
I want to travel. I want to go to Italy. I want to go to Australia. I want to find some island somewhere, somewhere pretty. I don't think I could go by myself but would want to go with a group of friends.

What would be the worst weather condition for a softball game?
Cold and rainy is miserable. One, it's cold out. So that's already awful to hit and try to throw in. And when it is rainy and you are wet and cold, it is just miserable and awful. That would be awful weather for anything, not just softball.
