MOBILE, Ala. (seminoles.com) - Two members of the Florida State softball team in pitcher Lacey Waldrop and outfielder Morgan Bullock were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Southeast Region Second Team, announced on Thursday by the NFCA.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first and second teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
The all-region honors are a first for both Waldrop and Bullock. Waldrop, who is a sophomore from Chester, Va., has been Florida State's guiding force in the circle. She is 22-8 with a 1.47 ERA and has struck out 222 in 191 innings pitched. She earned All-ACC First Team honors and was named ACC Pitcher of the Week three times this season.
Bullock has produced her best year as a Seminole. The senior from Dacula, Ga. leads the Seminoles with a .358 batting average and has compiled 58 base hits, seven sacrifice hits and four triples. Bullock was named to the All-ACC Second Team last week.
Since 1982 when Florida State's first all-region members were selected, a Seminole has been named to the all-region team 105 times. In the 28 different years Florida State has been recognized for all-region performers, multiple Seminoles have been named all-region in every year but one (1991).
Florida State begins NCAA Regional play in Mobile, Ala. when it faces Mississippi State at 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT on Friday at Jaguar Field.
