Florida State Softball Players Named To All-ACC

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Four Florida State softball players garnered All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors for the 2000 season. Staci Brandon, Serita Brooks, Leslie Malerich and Brandi Stuart were all selected to the squad after leading the team to FSU's 8th ACC Tournament Crown last weekend.

Leading the pack for the Lady Seminoles was junior Serita Brooks. A native of Cottondale, Ala., Brooks led the ACC this season with a batting average of .400 and 42 stolen bases along with a team-leading seven triples. Junior Staci Brandon also made her first appearance on the squad. Brandon, a junior transfer from Peoria, Ariz., was second on the team with a .378 batting average and added five triples and 25 RBI's and was fourth in league batting and was an ACC Player of the Week selection in April.

Sophomore pitcher Leslie Malerich received the honors after compiling a 32-14 record and a 1.20 ERA. The six-time ACC Player of the Week led the Lady Seminoles to the tournament championship with a 4-1 record and has won 13 of her last 15 outings, including three straight wins over Virginia. Malerich has thrown 230 of the Lady Seminoles 348 strikeouts and has appeared in 292.1 of the 500.2 innings and has notched 15 shutouts two no-hitters and a perfect game this season.

Rounding out the Lady Seminoles is freshman Brandi Stuart. Stuart, the lone freshman on the squad, finished third on the team with a .344 batting average and had 36 RBI's, second on the team. The native of Cerritus, Calif., was named Player of the Week for April 24th.

FSU'S TERESA EDENFIELD NAMED ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Senior Teresa Edenfield was named the ACC Player of the Week for May 8th. Edenfield led the Lady Seminoles to a sweep of Virginia and Maryland last week, clinching the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Edenfield, a native of Marianna, Fla., was the Lady Seminoles offensive leader last week as she went 5-12 and provided key hits in two of Florida States wins last week. In the first game of the week at Virginia, the senior rightfielder and catcher had a two-run double that plated the winning run in FSU's 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Cavaliers. In game one of FSU's doubleheader with Maryland, her two-run homer gave FSU a 5-3 advantage and the Lady Seminoles went on to earn a 10-3 win. On the week, Edenfield recorded five RBI's, a double and home run to go along with her .417 batting average.

The Lady Seminoles collected four player of the week honors and six pitcher of the week honors in the 2000 season.
