TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Two members of the Florida State University softball team in junior Kirstin Austin and redshirt sophomore Jessica Nori have been named to the Capital One Academic ® District 4 Softball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Both Austin and Nori have been lauded for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Their selection to the District 4 team, which includes student-athletes who play for universities based in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, advances them to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

"I'm very proud of both Jessica and Kirstin," head coach Lonni Alameda said. "We stress the academics and community service portion of our program just as much as the athletic side and these two exemplify the best in collegiate athletics. Our program routinely produces excellent athletes who also pursue their working fields with great ambition, and I'm more than confident that both Jessica and Kirstin will take advantage of their bright futures."

Austin is a talented left fielder from Temple Terrace, Fla., who majors in exercise science. Since arriving at FSU as a sophomore in the 2010 fall semester, Austin has carried a 3.48 grade point average while balancing a tremendous workload in the classroom with her athletic priorities.

Not having finished her second season just yet, Austin has already been honored as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athlete, a Golden Nole Award recipient for her work in the community and an ACC Academic Honor Roll recipient. In the current academic year, Austin was among the top female student-athletes at FSU in community service hours, and has donated her time toward several charitable works that include the American Cancer Society, Literacy Week and other worthy endeavors.

Austin has earned her time on the field in 2012, sparking FSU's offense in a big way since being a consistent starter shortly before the halfway point of the season. Austin is batting .300 with one home run, 10 RBIs, three doubles, one triple and 13 walks. In a 22-game stretch between March 20 and April 19, Austin batted .407 while recording several important base hits in games that include nationally-ranked wins over North Carolina and LSU.

Nori is a hard-working entrepreneurship major who boasts a tremendous 3.76 grade point average. She is from Weston, Fla., and has provided FSU with several substantial appearances in her last two seasons in the circle.

Like Austin, Nori has also been recognized as an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and an ACC Academic Honor Roll recipient. She completed well over 20 hours of community service in the 2011-12 academic year, participating in several events such as Relay For Life. The former St. Thomas Aquinas player is known as an intelligent and diligent student-athlete who maximizes her time with studying and competing on the field.

This season, Nori shows a 4-3 record with a 2.04 ERA and 28 strikeouts compared to just eight walks. She has recorded three saves this season in 21 appearances, and as just a reliever she has a tremendous 0.54 ERA in 16 appearances. In nine appearances in conference play, Nori has a 1.29 ERA with two saves, with both coming in a key series victory over Georgia Tech. She also put together one of her biggest starts of the season in a victory at Virginia Tech that sparked a series win, throwing a complete game.

The academic all-district teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
