Syracuse Game Notes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) - The No. 8/9 Florida State Seminoles (41-6, 18-3 ACC) are back at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee and will take on Syracuse (20-19, 10-8 ACC) in a three game series on April 19-20. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 5:00 p.m., while Sunday's single game will start at 3:00 p.m.

"Syracuse has had some players get national recognition and have some speed and swing the bat well so we are expecting a dogfight like we do every week in the ACC," said head coach Lonni Alameda. "We also will be celebrating our military this weekend and being able to thank them for the chance to live in America with the freedoms we have is an honor."

Florida State comes back to Tallahassee after going 3-1 on a four-game road trip to Notre Dame and Pitt. The Seminoles split with Notre Dame, 5-8 and 9-7, while they took both games of a doubleheader at Pitt, 5-2 and 10-3, respectively.

FSU has 18 ACC wins in 2014 which ties a program record it set in 2013. The Seminoles have a chance to tie or surpass the current conference record for ACC wins of 19 which was set by Georgia Tech in 2010.

The Seminoles lead the all-time series with Syracuse, 6-2, and have won the last two meetings. FSU defeated the Orange 8-0 in 2007 and 3-0 in 2010.

Redshirt junior Maddie O'Brien reasserted herself as one of the best hitters in the country this past week. O'Brien now leads the NCAA in home runs (20), RBI (74) and slugging percentage (1.014) and is in the top 25 of batting average (.464) and on base percentage (.557). Her three RBI in game two at Pitt gave her 164 RBI for her career to set a new FSU record.

Redshirt freshman Jessica Burroughs was named as one of the top 25 finalists for the inaugural NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year trophy on April 17. Burroughs is 14-1 on the season with a 2.34 ERA. In her last outing at Pitt, she tossed 5.0 innings and recorded nine strikeouts, allowing two hits and zero earned runs.

Lacey Waldrop continues to lead the county in victories as she picked up win number 27 at Pitt on April 16. Her 0.88 ERA is the third lowest in the country and is sixth in the NCAA with 217 strikeouts. She leads the ACC in six categories, including opponent batting average (.170).

There will be two promotions going on alongside the games this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader will be part of Military Appreciation Day where we honor the service of veterans and current military members for their service to this country and for protecting our freedom. Following the game on Sunday, there will be a home run derby sponsored by Moe's Southwest Grill.

All three games of the series will be televised as Saturday's doubleheader will be shown on ESPN3 with Tom Block and Robin Ahrberg doing the play-by-play. Sunday's game will air on ESPNU with Adam Amin and Amanda Scarborough on the call.
