Not a single one!
Frehsman Leslie Malerich pitched her first no-hitter as a Seminole with her win over Toledo. TheMerrillville, IN native struck-out nine batters, walked two and had no hits in the 9-1 win. Toledo scored on a sacrifice after a walk and an error.
And the hits keep on coming...
FSU has had double-digit hits in 14 games this year and it doesn't stop there. The Lady Seminoles are averaging 7.24 hits per game, have 10 players with double digit hits for the season and had a season high 16 hits in the second game against Michigan State.
Leading the way
Not only does Danielle Cox lead the Lady Seminoles in batting average (.426), runs (44), hits (84) and stolen bases (64) but she also is a leader in the ACC. The senior from Anniston, Alabama leads the ACC in stolen bases (64) and in batting average (.426). NOTE: The ACC stats are as of the April 6th release.
Carter steps it up
Kimmy Carter has stepped up -- and not just to the plate. Carter, a freshman from West Plam Beach, Florida, has had multiple hits in five games this season and was stellar from the plate against Forida, going 3-5 with a triple and an RBI. Carter is also flawless from the field with no errors and a stolen base. She is one of four players with two doubles in a game and was perfect from the plate against Utah.
Oh no you don't!
The Lady Seminoles caught their opponents stealing...bases that is. Thirty players from the FSU opponents have been caught trying to sneak to the next base. Andi Lyons leads the team as she has caught ten of those players and Leslie Malerich has caught seven.
No runs for you
The FSU pitching staff has held 15 teams scoreless in games. Jen White leads the effort with shut-outs over Campbell, Miami-Ohio, Maryland, Georgia Tech and Minnesota. Leslie Malerich recorded shut-outs against Georgia Southern and Troy State as Stacy Venable held the Bulldogs scoreless in the 5-0 win over Georgia.
What a Steal!
Danielle Cox and Dana Bailey are among FSU's best in stolen bases as they hold the third and fifth spots in the career record book. Cox has 89 while Bailey has 55, respectively.
Now and then
The Lady Seminoles have made improvements after the first half of the season. In their first 22 games, FSU was 10-12-1 with 154 hits and 79 runs. Since then, FSU has gone18-9 and had 204 hits, scoring 106 runs (compared to their opponents 52).
The pitching staff has stepped it up as well. From the beginning of the season through the FAU game at the Speedline Invitational, the pitchers had given up 139 hits, 62 runs and six homeruns while striking out 100 batters. Since then, they have struck out 128 batters and have only given up 52 runs off 139 hits. Only three of those hits have gone over the outfield wall.
Three Strikes...you're out!
Each batter gets three stikes...and the Lady Seminoles have made sure they get out! Jen White leads the team with 148 strikeouts and has caught 37 of them looking. Her strikeouts have taken her to the top of the ACC as she is second in strikeouts per seven innings with a 18.14 average. Leslie Malerich is second on the team with 78 and is fifth in the conference with an average of 9.71, and has struckout 20 batters as they watched.
What an honor!
Senior Stacy Venable is one of 16 students-athletes in the ACC to be awarded the 1999 Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship. Each student receives $5,000 toward their postgraduate education. Venable was chosen based on her exceptional performance in the classroom, on the field and in the community. She will continue her education as a full time student after graduation.
She's a hitter!
After only twelve games with a hit in the first half of the season, Christy Cerecedes has turned it up a notch. A sophomore from Hacienda Heights, California, Cerecedes has had hits in 19 of the last 22 games, bringing in 14 of her 29 RBI's from the season. She is also second in the ACC with four triples.
over the fence
