RULING THE STATISTICAL NATION
In the first NCAA statistical rankings for the 2001 season, Florida State is one of only three schools to rank in the top eight in both pitching, hitting and won-loss percentage. The Seminoles have the nation's second best pitching staff with an ERA of 0.61, the country's 8th-ranked offense (.311 team batting average) and the seventh best winning percentage in America (.854). Only Arizona (No. 1 in pitching and hitting and No. 3 in winning percentage) and UCLA (No. 3 pitching, No. 2 hitting and No. 1 in winning percentage) join the Noles in this elite group.
Individually, the Noles entire rotation is amongst the nation's ERA leaders. Leslie Malerich has the nation's 10th-best ERA (0.50), Jen White-Stokes is No. 11 with an ERA of 0.53 and freshman Jessica van der Linden ranks 42nd with a 0.90 ERA. Senior All-American Serita Brooks is No. 11 in stolen bases (0.72/gm) and sophomore sensation Brandi Stuart is 39th in the NCAA with a .410 batting average.
FSU AGAINST FAU, UNC and ECU
In two meetings with FAU this season, senior All-American Serita Brooks is hitting .429 which is 156 percentage points higher than her season average.....the Noles are a perfect 4 for 4 in stolen bases against the Owls this season.....the Florida State pitching staff posted a perfect 0.00 ERA in 16 innings of work against Florida Atlantic.....FSU pitchers also held FAU to no hits in four opportunities with the bases loaded.....Jen White-Stokes pitched a complete game three hit shut out against the Owls in the championship game of the FAU/Worth Invitational....Over the last two seasons, Staci Brandon and Brandi Stuart have hit .461with four RBI and five runs scored in five meetings with the Tar Heels.....Kimmy Carter and Leslie Malerich are the only current Seminoles to have faced UNC everytime the teams have played in the past two seasons.....Carter has 5 RBI and has scored three runs in her five meetings with North Carolina and she is hitting .600 in her last five at bats against the Heels.....Malerich has pitched in every one of the schools last five meetings and she is 3-0 over that stretch.....FSU scored 10 runs in two meetings with UNC in 2000.....Brandi Stuart went 4 for 7 with three runs and two RBI against ECU last season.....FSU only struck out once for every 11 at bats against the Pirates last year.....Leslie Malerich pitched 14 innings, gave up just five hits, 0 earned runs, only two walks and faced just five batters over the minimum in two games.
