Florida State Softball Heads To UTC Frost Cutlery Challenge
Lady Seminoles to play six games in three days in Chattanooga.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Lady Seminoles will leave for Chattanooga, Tenn., on Thursday, March
23rd to participate in the UTC Frost Cutlery Challenge over the weekend.
The Tribe will play six games in three days.
Friday, March 24th
vs. Louisiana-Lafayette at Noon

vs. Wisconsin at Noon
vs. Louisiana-Lafayette at 2 p.m.
Sunday, March 26th

LAST OUTING: The Lady Seminoles swept Ohio, 8-1 and 6-1, on Wednesday
night at the Seminoles Softball Complex. FSU belted a season-high 13 hits
in the first game and outhit the Bobcats 20-8 for the series.

Dr. JoAnne Graf is in her 22nd season at the helm of the Lady Seminole
program. Her record stands at 1028-300-6. In 1999, Graf became the first
coach in NCAA Division I history to amass 1,000 Division I victories and
the first to reach that plateau at one university. She has guided FSU to
five College World Series, 12 NCAA Regional appearances, two slowpitch
National Championships and seven ACC Championships. Her coaching has
produced 17 All-Americans and numerous all-region and all-conference
THE BATS WOKE UP!
Florida State belted a season-high 13 hits in the first game of the
doubleheader vs. Ohio. It marked the seventh time this season that the
Lady Seminoles have recorded double digit hits in a game and the Tribe is
7-0 in those games. On the flip side, FSU pitching has not allowed an
opponent to record double-digit hits this season.
INSIDE THE PARK
Junior Serita Brooks used her speed to round the bases for her second home
run of the season, but first in-the-park home run. It is the second
in-the-park home run for the Lady Seminoles this season as Jen White-Stokes
recorded one vs. FAMU on February 12th.
STACI BRANDON IS ON A ROLL
Left fielder Staci Brandon is on a current seven-game hitting streak. The
junior is second on the team in batting at .417.
Serita Brooks leads the team with 16 multi-hit games this season. The
junior also has four multi-RBI games on the year. She has hit safely in 33
of 39 games and put together a hitting streak of 10 games between Feb.
Juniors Staci Brandon and Serita Brooks were named to the 2000 Tallahassee
Democrat Florida State Invitational All-Tournament team over the weekend.
Brandon led all FSU players with a .750 batting average on 9-of-12 at the
plate with two RBIs and three runs scored. Brooks hit .529 on 9-of-17,
including a double and a triple, and scored two runs and drove in three
EDENFIELD IS BACK
Senior Teresa Edenfield, who leads the team with 24 RBIs on the year,
missed the majority of the FSU Invitational with a sprained left knee.
Edenfield saw one at bat in the five games and it was a hit against
Northern Iowa. Felecia Williams pinch-ran for Edenfield and went on to
score. Edenfield returned to action on Wednesday, March 22nd vs. Ohio and
went 3-for-7, including two doubles and had three RBIs.
HOME RUN CLUB
The Lady Seminoles already have 12 home runs this season while FSU pitching
has allowed just five. The Tribe had a total of seven last season. Kelly
Miller and Teresa Edenfield lead the team with three apiece while Kimmy
Carter and Serita Brooks each have two, and Brandi Stuart and Jen
White-Stokes each have one.
Sophomore Leslie Malerich faced 21 batters and threw five strikeouts
against Princeton for her first career perfect game as a Lady Seminole! It
was also her sixth shut out of the season.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK ... AGAIN!
Leslie Malerich earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday, March 20th
after recording her first career perfect game and earning two victories the
past week It is the third time this season that Malerich has been
recognized by the league.
Junior Serita Brooks was named to the Fresno State Hallowell Chevrolet
All-Tournament team after batting .474 with two RBI's and going a perfect
4-4 in stolen bases.
Serita Brooks, a transfer from North Florida CC, has quickly made a name
for herself. The Cottondale, Ala., native leads the team in batting at
.421, hits with 53 and stolen bases with 26. She has also earned ACC
Player of the Week honors once this season.
While Drake University transfer Natalie Bennett has just 22 hits on the
season, they have been key ones because the shortstop ranks second on the
team with 20 RBIs off those hits!
ON THE BASEPATHS
The Lady Seminoles have some speed in the line up. Serita Brooks leads the
team with 26 stolen bases, while Brandi Stuart has 20. As a team, FSU has
recorded 67 stolen bases to its opponents' 22.
TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT
The Lady Seminoles are 24-15 heading into this weekend's action. Eight of
the Tribe's 15 losses have been by just one run and three of those games
went extra innings before being decided.
Two records were tied or broken during the Seminole Classic, February
11-13. The Cal-Berkeley Bears tied the record for team RBI's with 10 and
set a new record for runs by one team in a game with 14 against FAMU on Feb
The Lady Seminoles are 2-3 in extra inning games this season.
TWICE AS NICE
Sophomore Leslie Malerich won her second consecutive ACC pitcher of the
week award for the week of February 21st. For the week, she compiled a 5-0
record while not allowing a run in 21 1/3 innings of work. She has not went
28 1/3 consecutive innings before allowing a run and has 96 strikeouts in
97 innings pitched.
The Lady Seminoles won eight straight games during a 10-day stretch from
Feb. 16-26th. The Tribe also lost eight straight during a seven-day
stretch from March 4-11th.
SHUTTING 'EM OUT!
Florida State pitching has produced 13 shutouts this season, including a
no-hitter against Florida A&M and a perfect game against Princeton. Leslie
Malerich leads the unit with six solo and two combined shutouts.
