Tallahassee, FL - The final day of the 2001 Tallahassee Democrat/Florida State Invitational was cancelled due to in climate weather. The games will not be rescheduled due to the travel plans of the six schools that remain in contention. In 18 years of Florida State Invitational play, this is only the third time that a single champion hasn't been crowned. In 1990, four schools were crowned pool champions and 1991 Florida State and Creighton shared the title.

The Seminoles (29-5) completed the tournament with a 4-0 record but were unable to play their semifinal match against Maryland Saturday night. The Seminoles hit .400 as a team for the tournament and were lead by Brandi Stuart, Serita Brooks and Jen White-Stokes at the plate. Stuart hit .583, with three doubles, three RBI's and a .833 slugging percentage. Senior All-American Brooks also hit .583 with a slugging percentage of .833 and she had a homerun, a .667 on base percentage, scored six runs and was a perfect 8 for 8 in stolen base attempts. White-Stokes hit .545 for the tournament with two RBI's and a .727 slugging percentage.

White-Stokes also led Florida State on the mound and she and Jessica van der Linden went 4-0 with a combined ERA of 0.81 for the tournament. White-Stokes was 2-0 with a 0.58 ERA and she allowed just one earned run in 12 innings of work while walking just two batters. Van der Linden recorded 12 K's and just two walks while posting a 2-0 record with an ERA of 1.00.

Florida State returns to action Monday, March 19 when they face the University of Connecticut (5-9) in a single game at the Seminole Softball Complex at 5:30 p.m. The Noles will then play a double header against the University of Massachusetts (11-9) Tuesday, March 20 beginning at 5:30 p.m. All games are free to the public and the Seminole Softball Complex is located on the campus of Florida State University.
