Tallahassee, FL - For the third week in-a-row, a FSU softball player has been recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference as either player of the week or pitcher of the week but this weeks honors mark the first time this season the Seminoles have captured both awards in the same week. Senior Robyn Gauger and junior Leslie Malerich captured ACC honors after Florida State posted a 6-2 record and captured the FAU/Worth Invitational title this past weekend.

"I am happy for both of our girls since they worked very hard and fought through a little bit of adversity this past week," said head coach JoAnne Graf. "Leslie was a key member of our pitching staff that posted a 0.39 ERA for the week and Robyn's 10 RBI's were more than 34% of our total RBI's for the week. It is safe to say that these two players were a main reason we were able to win our thirs tournament of the season."

Gauger batted .400 and recorded 10 RBI's this week. She hit two doubles and recorded the game-winning RBI against the University of Illinois in a 2-0 win that sent FSU to the Worth Invitational championship. Her single to left field in the second game of the Mercer doubleheader plated two runs and gave FSU a 2-0 lead. She then singled in two more runs in the second inning as FSU went on to the 8-0 win. Gauger hit a three-RBI double in the first inning and an RBI single in the third inning of FSU's 11-0 win over Florida A&M. She also recorded an RBI in the Seminoles 5-3 win over ACC rival Maryland. Gauger knocked in 10 of FSU's 29 runs for the week, she hit .625 with runners on base, .800 with runners in scoring position, she successfully advanced runners 67% of the time and she was 2 for 2 with the bases loaded. Malerich, who has already been named ACC pitcher of the week two out of the first three weeks of the season, went 3-1 this week with a 0.00 ERA and was named most valuable pitcher for the FAU/Worth Invitational. She pitched two solo shutouts and one combined shutout in 24 innings of work and struck out 22 batters while allowing only five walks. She limited the 82 batters she faced to a .146 batting average. She held opponents to just a .161 batting average with runners on base and averaged just 1.46 walks and 6.42 strikeouts per game. Malerich pitched a complete game two-hitter with four strikeouts and only one walk in a 2-0 win over Illinois that advanced the Seminoles to the FAU/Worth Invitational title game. In the Seminoles 10 inning 2-1 loss to FAU, Malerich struck out 11 batters in 9 innings of work to lower her team-leading ERA to 0.48 for the season. In an 8-0 win over Mercer, Malerich faced just 17 batters in five innings, two over the minimum, and struck out four Bears while allowing just one walk.

Florida State, currently ranked 16th in the nation, will host the Seminole Challenge Tournament March 2-4 at the Seminole Softball Complex. The tournament is free to the public and will feature Northwestern University, Ball State University, Central Michigan University and Florida State.
