Florida State Heads To Alabama

Auburn Game Notes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After nine straight home games, the No. 9-ranked Florida State softball team hits the road for a game at No. 25 Auburn on Wed., Feb. 26 and the Easton Crimson Classic hosted by No. 11 Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

"Right now our focus is on Auburn and we are obviously preparing ourselves for a long weekend and an intense weekend," said head coach Lonni Alameda. "Purdue and Houston bring some unique challenges as well. We've been home the past couple of weekends, and that is nice, but you need to take the challenge of playing on the road and facing an atmosphere like Auburn or Tuscaloosa."

Pitching has been the foundation on which this season's success has been built. Junior Lacey Waldrop leads the staff with a 7-1 record and 0.57 ERA in 49.00 innings of work. Waldrop has twice been named ACC Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 10 and Feb. 24) and has posted 57 strikeouts while only allowing nine walks.

Jessica Burroughs has fared just as well in the circle as the redshirt freshman is out to a 6-0 record with a 1.27 ERA. She has only allowed six runs, four earned, in 27.2 innings to go along with 29 strikeouts.

The Seminole bullpen has been nearly perfect in 2014 as redshirt senior Jessica Nori and junior Bailey Schinella have combined to throw 10.1 shutout innings, allowing just four total hits and striking out six.

Offensively, the Seminoles are led by their 1-2-3 hitters of Tiffani Brown, Courtney Senas and Maddie O'Brien. Brown either is tied or has the team lead in hits (18), runs (23), triples (2) and stolen bases (11). Senas is tied for the team lead in walks (11) and is batting .417 (15-for-36) with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, 16 RBI and 16 runs scored. O'Brien leads the team with a .486 average, five doubles, six home runs and 25 RBI.

The trio have helped the `Noles get out to fast starts in almost every game as Florida State has scored at least one run in the first inning in 10 games this season and plated three or more runs in the opening frame five times this year.

Florida State will take on Auburn at Jane B. Moore Field on February 26 at 5:00 p.m. CT (6:00 p.m. ET) before continuing on to Tuscaloosa for the Easton Crimson Classic from Feb. 28 to March 2. Houston and Purdue will join host school Alabama in the three day tournament.
