Florida State enters the tournament on an 11-game winning streak after defeating UCF, 6-1, on Wednesday night. Junior pitcher Lacey Waldrop recorded 14 strikeouts in 6.0 innings on her way to the win.
The Seminoles pitching staff has been nearly perfect all season. They boast a team ERA of 0.67 and have only allowed 44 hits and 11 runs through 12 games this season. Opposing batters are hitting just .165 against them. Allowing the one run to UCF snapped a streak of 29.0 innings where Florida State did not give up a run.
Starters Waldrop and Jessica Burroughs have been tough to figure out, but relievers Jessica Nori and Bailey Schinella have been even more difficult for opponents. Neither pitcher has allowed a run over 8.1 innings of relief and have surrendered just four total hits and one walk to go with four strikeouts.
Offensively, Florida State has been led by upperclassmen Maddie O'Brien, Tiffani Brown and Courtney Senas. O'Brien is batting .516 on the season with four doubles, five home runs and 21 RBI. She leads the team and the ACC in all four categories.
Brown has scored 19 runs and stolen 10 bases so far in 2014 and is batting at a .375 clip. Senas is batting .419 with 14 runs, 13 RBI, eight walks and five stolen bases. She also has an outfield assist as she threw out a Saint Mary's base runner at the plate on February 8.
The Seminoles are a combined 10-1 against the teams they will face in the Unconquered Classic. FSU has a 7-1 record against Northern Iowa, most recently playing the Panthers in 2000 and coming away with a 6-2 victory. The `Noles are undefeated against UCSB (2-0) and defeated Wichita State, 1-0, in 1990 in the only meeting between the teams. Florida State has not previously played Charleston Southern.
