No. 10 `Noles Face UCF On ESPN3

Feb. 18, 2014

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 10-ranked Florida State softball team will take on in-state opponent UCF on February 19 at 6:00 p.m. The game will be the first of eleven this season to be televised on the ESPN family of networks as Wednesday's game will be streamed live on ESPN3.

"This should be a great game, said head coach Lonni Alameda. "UCF is a solid team and comes in undefeated. We have faced their pitcher Mackenzie Audas before and are going to have to be focused and disciplined in order to be successful."

The Seminoles enter the game on a 10-game winning streak, including a six-game sweep of North Dakota State and Southern Miss in the Renegade Classic on February 14-16. FSU outscored its opponents 46-2 on the weekend and currently have not given up a run in the last 26.2 innings. Lacey Waldrop and Bailey Schinella combined to throw a no-hitter against NDSU on Feb. 15, and Jessica Burroughs and Jessica Nori were two outs away from throwing a perfect game against USM on Feb. 16.

Maddie O'Brien continues to lead the `Noles offensively. The redshirt junior shortstop is batting .536 (15-for-28) with three doubles, five home runs, 21 RBI and 13 runs scored. She has a slugging percentage of 1.179 and an on-base percentage of .622. Her 23 career home runs are tied for fifth all-time with Ashley Stager (2008-11).

Redshirt senior Tiffani Brown has also been filling the box score for Florida State. The second baseman has or is tied for the team lead in five different categories, including hits (15), runs (19) and stolen bases (10).

In the circle, Florida State has been dominant. Whether it is starters Waldrop and Burroughs, or relievers Schinella or Nori, opposing batters have struggled all season long against Seminole pitching. As a staff, they have a combined 0.64 ERA, surrendering only six earned runs all season in 66.0 innings to go with 60 strikeouts. Batters are only managing a .173 average from the plate, led by Nori's .133.

UCF's pitching staff appears equally as formidable, posting a combined 1.00 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 49.0 innings. Audas leads the team with a 4-0 record and the junior has a 0.59 ERA. Sophomore Shelby Turnier already has 30 strikeouts in 20.1 innings this season, including 15 against FAMU on February 15. Turnier can also do some damage with the bat as two of her three hits this season have been triples.

First pitch will be at 6:03 p.m. Local celebrity, Frankie Grizzle-Malgrat, better known as Red Lightning, will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.
