Tallahassee, Fla. - Just two weeks into the 2008 season, Florida State will host its second tournament with the Seminole Classic February 15-17 on JoAnne Graf Field at the Seminole Softball Complex. Making the trip this year are in-state teams from Bethune Cookman and Jacksonville along with Michigan State and UAB.
Florida State leads the all-time series with all four opponents, most recently sweeping a doubleheader with Jacksonville last season.
The Seminoles enter the weekend after defeating in-town rivals, Florida A&M, 9-1 on Feb. 13. The game, which was played on the Seminoles' home turf, was originally schedule for Feb. 12 at the Rattlers' complex, but due to their field needing more time to be game-ready and all-day showers on Tuesday, the match-up was moved to Wednesday night.
"FAMU is well coached and they always come at us hard," head coach JoAnne Graf said. "They're a very aggressive team and are always a tough opponent for us."
The victory over FAMU marked the 101st meeting between the teams since 1984 with FSU now dominating the series now 94-7.
With the season at 3-2, Florida State looks to sweep the Seminole Classic which starts for the Seminoles at 4:45 p.m. on Friday against the Jacksonville Dolphins. Watch the Seminoles live on ACC Select by visiting www.ACCSelect.com and as always, check Seminoles.com for updates from the weekend.
