TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - The Florida State softball team added to its preseason rankings when it received a No. 24 spot in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll, announced on Tuesday by the Amateur Softball Association of America.
The Seminoles are also ranked 25th in the USA Today/NFCA preseason poll. It is the first time Florida State has been preseason ranked in both polls since 2010, when it was rated 19th by USA Softball and 23rd by the NFCA.
"We are ready to get going with this season. Our team has been tremendous so far in preseason practice and we are looking forward to finally playing someone else on the field," head coach Lonni Alameda said. "Once again, being preseason ranked is nice but we are more concerned with how we finish."
Florida State begins the 2013 season by hosting the Panhandle Invitational on Friday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. against cross-town rival Florida A&M. That weekend, the Seminoles also host North Florida on Saturday as well as Bethune-Cookman and Jacksonville on Sunday.
Florida State finished No. 22 in the final ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll last season after making its 13th consecutive NCAA Regional. Seven Seminole opponents this year are also ranked in the preseason poll, including Oklahoma (2nd), LSU (12th), Florida (15th), Washington (16th), Stanford (20th), North Carolina (21th) and Hofstra (T-22nd).
