April 24, 1998 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The No. 16th-ranked Florida State softball team advanced to the championship game of the 1998 Atlantic Coast Conference in domineering fashion early this evening with a 10-0, five-inning victory over Virginia at Lady Seminole Field. FSU, now 49-18 overall, will face the winner of the Virginia/North Carolina game at 3:30 tomorrow. UNC and UVA will play at noon.
Nine hits, including five extra-base hits, helped spur the Tribe to victory. Junior Corrie Williams led the attack, going 2-for-4, including a double and a triple. She had a team-high three RBIs and also scored a run. Shortstop Jesse McGregor went 3-for-3 with an RBI while Kristy Hull belted two hits and drove in a run.
Junior Stacy Venable allowed just three Virginia base hits. She improved to 17-7 overall and is 2-0 in the ACC Tournament with a 0.00 ERA. Virginia used three pitchers. Stacey Zagol recorded her first loss of the tournament and is now 18-13 on the year.
A five-run fifth inning for the Lady Seminoles allowed the the game to be called after five innings due to the eight-run rule.
